General mechanical mechanic: Presentation of the profession

If this universe interests you and the search for a defective part can be a real challenge for you, the job of general mechanic is yours.

As a general mechanic, you will manufacture mechanical parts according to drawings, all by drilling, turning, milling and grinding. This will require that you know how to read and draw up technical drawings. A lot of manual work will be required of you when assembling mechanical assemblies as well as when checking their operation.

You will have to know the different standards of machine builders, both in terms of adjustments and surface treatments, heat treatments of parts or even dimension verification.

If you choose to do this activity, you will most often use materials such as iron, stainless steels, brass, bronze, copper and aluminum as well as their alloys and some synthetic materials. You will work these materials using conventional machines as well as numerically controlled machines.
